Tsinghua SEM Master of Finance ranked 5th worldwide and 1st in Asia in 2023 Financial Times Ranking

The Financial Times published its 2023 ranking of Masters in Finance Pre-Experience programs on June 12, 2023. The Master of Finance at Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) ranked 5th worldwide and 1st in Asia. Tsinghua University is the first school from the Asia-Pacific region to appear among the Top 5 since the Financial Times first published its world ranking of Masters in Finance Pre-Experience programs in 2011.



Compared with the previous year, Tsinghua's Master of Finance program advanced from 7th to 5th in the world rankings. The program maintained a strong advantage in the alumni career progress index. Among all programs, the Salary Today index (average alumnus salary three years after graduation) showed that Tsinghua's finance graduates earned the most among all the evaluated programs, with their salary percentage increasing by 95 percent, which ranked 3rd Worldwide.


On the Career Service and Value for Money indices it ranked 6th and 10th respectively in the world.


On both the Career Progress and Alumni Network it ranked 2nd in Asia, while on Aims Achieved and Overall Satisfaction it ranked 4th in the world.


The ranking reflects the high quality of the Master of Finance program and of the alumni career development and alumni's contributions to their fields.


The Master of Finance program at Tsinghua SEM was established in to nurture top-notch professionals in applied finance who possess a global perspective and are prepared to navigate the dynamic market. During the past 12 years, the program has improved its teaching methods, emphasized the integration of industry and education, fostered collaborations with international organizations, and equipped students with real-world problem solving skills. The program attracts the best graduates in China and from more than 50 countries and regions. In 2022, 207 applicants in China achieved the highest GPA in their majors and 229 were awarded national scholarships.


The program offers four concentrations based on students' backgrounds and future career plans. These include Global Finance, Fintech, Entrepreneurship and Corporate Finance, and Investment and Insurance. Additionally, it provides students the ability to seek dual degrees with four top schools including the University of California, Berkeley, Columbia University, HEC Paris and London Business School.


The faculty comprises individuals from both academic and industry backgrounds, creating a "double mentor" mechanism of cultivation. The program boasts a team of 130 such mentors who are leading figures in the finance industry. In addition to its excellent faculty, the program offers a unique learning experience through the Financial Practice in China course series. In these lessons, esteemed financial elites and supervisors are invited into the classrooms to give students insight into real-world financial practices.


About FT's Ranking of Master of Finance


The Financial Times began publishing its global ranking of Master of Finance programs in 2011. The list is well-regarded in academia and the industry due to its comprehensive evaluation methodology. The ranking assesses programs based on three dimensions: alumni career progress, school diversity and international experience, and research and carbon footprint. These dimensions are further broken down into 18 indices, which provide a thorough assessment of the strength of each program.
