Tsinghua SEM hosts 2024 TIEMBA alumni reunion

Alumni of the Tsinghua-INSEAD EMBA (TIEMBA) program met for the 2024 reunion at the Jianhua Building of Tsinghua University on April 26. The reunion coincided with the 40th anniversary of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM).


The reunion was organized by the TIEMBA program and co-organized by alumni from the TIEMBA 2016 and 2017 cohorts with Horace Cheng, Class of 2016, serving as host. The event attracted more than 70 alumni from 13 countries including well-known experts in various fields. BAI Chong-En, a Distinguished Professor of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Tsinghua University and dean of Tsinghua SEM; XUE Jian, professor of accounting and deputy dean of Tsinghua SEM; Peter Joos, professor of accounting and control, deputy dean and dean of faculty of INSEAD; LU Yao, professor of finance and TIEMBA Academic Director; CHEN Taotao, professor of finance at Tsinghua SEM and director of Tsinghua University Latin America Center; JIA Li, director of EMBA Programs; and AN Jing, assistant director of the EMBA Programs attended the event.

The alumni reunion forum on the afternoon of April 26 commenced with a welcoming speech by XUE Jian. She introduced the recent developments and achievements of the school, including the inauguration of new buildings, advances in teaching innovation, and enhancements in faculty strength, the school's advisory board and its brand activities, along with the continued reform and innovation of the TIEMBA program. XUE said this year marks the 17th year since the launch of the TIEMBA program, expressed sincere gratitude to INSEAD and TIEMBA alumni for their support of the program, and looked forward to working together to create a better future.

In the keynote speech, BAI Chong-En conducted in-depth discussions with guests and alumni about transformations in the Chinese economy.


Peter Joos' keynote speech was "Credibility in Reporting on Sustainability." He combined the theme of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals with a discussion of sustainable development goals, frameworks and reporting. He detailed each step of the framework, emphasizing the importance of measuring external effects with case-studies of well-known global enterprises.

LU Yao moderated a roundtable discussion featuring CHEN Taotao, along with TIEMBA alumni Chris Tang, Tony Yuan, and Alexis Bonhomme, on the globalization of Chinese companies. The panelists said globalization introduces significant changes and challenges across industries. Key factors for successful international expansion include technology integration, infrastructure development, localized management, talent team building, and product design. They thanked the TIEMBA program for its strong networking resources, which helped them integrate into their local business environment.

In the morning, a group of attendees visited Daxing International Hydrogen Energy Demonstration Zone, Zhongguancun Medical Equipment Park, and the International Science and Technology Innovation Center of the Sino-Japanese Innovation Cooperation Demonstration Zone in Beijing.

At the conclusion of the event, the TIEMBA program presented awards to alumni in recognition of their outstanding contributions. The event strengthened the close ties TIEMBA alumni and showcased the positive role of the international program at Tsinghua SEM in building bridges between China and the global community, underscoring the determination of TIEMBA students to work together to contribute to the development of China and the world.
