On the morning of October 18, 2019, the 2019 Advisory Board Meeting of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) was held, with 35 Board members participating in the meeting and related activities. Since the Advisory Board’s inception in 2000, this was the 20th time that the annual meeting has been convened. The meeting was chaired by Tim Cook, the newly appointed Chairman of Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board, CEO of Apple.

Prior to the meeting, Tsinghua University President QIU Yong, Vice Chairman of Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board, made remarks and presented the Certificate of Appreciation to Jim Breyer, CEO of Breyer Capital, for his remarkable contributions to the development of the Advisory Board during his term as the Chairman from 2016 to 2019. Jim Breyer also proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board.

Tim Cook was honored to serve as the Chairman of the Advisory Board, “In the next three years, I will work with all of the board members to promote the development of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management and to lead the effort to build it into a world-class school”, said Cook.

This year, the main topic of the meeting were Teaching Innovation, Associate Dean XU Xin delivered a presentation on this.

Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board was established in October 2000, consisting of leading business executives, business school deans, renowned scholars including Nobel laureates in Economics, and Chinese government officials for economic and financial affairs. ZHU Rongji, the founding dean of Tsinghua SEM, is the Honorary Chairman. The Advisory Board aims to strengthen the external relations of the School, improve its overall accomplishments in education and research, and help to build it into a world-class school of economics and management. The current Chairman of Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board is Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, the Vice Chairmen are QIU Yong, President of Tsinghua University and QIAN Yingyi, Distinguished Professor of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Professor of Economics, Tsinghua SEM, and the Fourth Dean (2006-2018), Tsinghua SEM.
