◢ Introduction

Founded in 2000, the Research Center for Technological Innovation, Tsinghua University (RCTI) is one of the earliest academic institutions in China to carry out technological innovation research. In 2004, it was designated by the Ministry of Education as a key research base of humanities and social sciences. It is committed to becoming a basic theoretical innovation base in China’s technological innovation research field, a training base for high-level innovative economy, management and policy research talents, an academic exchange and information gathering center for innovation research, a national consulting service center for major innovation decisions, and a demonstration and radiation center for discipline development.

For two decades, the RCTI has conducted high-level scientific research targeting the international discipline forefront based on the major practical problems in China’s innovation and development, especially focusing on the core areas of innovative research such as technological innovation, independent innovation, service innovation, open innovation, collaborative innovation, and integrated innovation. It has undertaken major bidding projects of national social science, key projects of the National Natural Science Fund of China and the National Social Science Fund of China, consulting projects entrusted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, etc. Besides, it has established close collaborative relationship for scientific research with some first-class innovative enterprises such as China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Group, China National Petroleum Corporation, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, Inspur Group and Haier Group. In addition, it attaches great importance to international cooperation. It has established comprehensive cooperative relations with many world-famous innovative academic institutions, such as Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Asia Institute of Collaborative Innovation, GLORAD Research Center for Global R&D and Innovation, and has close academic contact with the MIT Sloan School of Management, and the Haas School of Business of the University of California, Berkeley.
